Monroe Jones

Monroe Jones is 68 years old. Born in Cleveland. He moved to Chicago at 17 then began playing blues at 18 in the famous Cotton Club with Bobby Dimples and the Rhythm Aces for two years starting in 1956.

After that Monroe was in Earl Hooker’s band with Jr Wells for almost a year. This was 1968. During this time Monroe also played with a Who’s Who list of the most known blues men of our time such as Sonnyboy Williams, Rice Miller, B.B. King, Muddy Waters band, Otis Rush, Freddie King, Buddy Guy, Howling Wolf, and others. He also recorded with John Littlejohn.

Monroe moved back to the Delta in 1971 and started playing with Little Milton. Since ’71 Monroe has been playing in the Delta with just about everybody that plays. The musicians today that were around in the 60’s and 70’s say that he was the best guitar player around. Monroe still plays today and lives a quiet life with his wife Gene in Cleveland, MS.
